>A Poem written by me, one of forty, during a forty day experience with the Holy Spirit in 2003.
Dare I drink from His cup
Can I match His sacrifice
Can I forsake myself
Will I give up my life
Dare I drink from His cup
As I walk through the desert
When my spirit is parched
Will I resist satan’s work
Dare I drink from His cup
Will I turn the other cheek
When I’m slapped in the face
Remain humble and meek
Dare I drink from His cup
Forever leave home
No place for my head
Always would I roam
Dare I drink from His cup
Will I go without sleep
Will I travel all night
With just the shoes on my feet
Dare I drink from His cup
Promise never to be tired
Always listening to the poor
In their woes heavily mired
Dare I drink from His cup
Will my heart be ever pure
Faithfully praying to my Father
In His love always sure
Dare I drink from His cup
And love the unlovely
Will I hold out my hand
Even if it is only me
Dare I drink from His cup
When hateful words are spoken
When everyone leaves me
Will my heart remain open
Dare I drink from His cup
Compassion will I show
When the needy come to me
With the seed will I sow
Dare I drink from His cup
When I’m pushed to the ground
As I am beaten and battered
And allow no wrath to come down
Dare I drink from His cup
Will I stand against the sea
And if I should anger
Calm the rage within me
Dare I drink from His cup
When my brothers turn away
Will I still yet rejoice
In each new day
Dare I drink from His cup
When the religious prevail
Will I still defend God’s way
Even unto the tearing of the veil
Dare I drink from His cup
As I gaze at the wood
Can I drop to my knees
Will I sweat drops of blood
Dare I drink from His cup
Will I hang on the cross
Can I look at my treasures
And gladly call it but loss
Dare I drink from His cup
Will I take it all in
Can I look a myself
All covered in sin
Dare I drink from His cup
Would I pay the price
Might I give it all up
Will I lay down my life
Dare I drink from the cup
As the darkness closes in
Can I still cry to the Father
Forgive them their sin!
Dare I drink from His cup
And descend into Hell
Could I take back the keys
Can I free those in jail
Dare I drink from His cup
No, this jouney I couldn’t make
But because of His promise
Of His cup I can partake
With Jesus’ hand steady upon mine
We will drink together
The Body and the Blood of Christ
From now and until forever
